APR Fc maintained their good start to the 2017/18 Azam Rwanda Premier League as they thumped AS Kigali 2-1 on the third day of the season’s encounter played on Friday afternoon at Stade de Kigali in Nyamirambo.
Goals from Sekamana Maxime and Twizeyimana Martin Fabrice handed the military side a deserved win over the Kigali City sponsored side.
The visitors opened the account in the 15th minute when APR Fc goalie Mvuyekure Emery misjudged and failed to hold Iradukunda Eric’s corner which found Murengezi Rodrigue in good position to snatch the opening goal with a good header.
A minute later, Sekamana unleashed a long shot outside the goal area past AS Kigali goalie Shamiru Batte into the ceiling of the goal posts, scoring one of the best goals this season.
APR Fc continued to dominate play and with five minutes to recess, midfielder Twizeyimana doubled the lead following poor AS Kigali defending as he connected a set piece from Sekamana scoring easily past helpless Shamiru.
AS Kigali tried harder for an equalizer but could not settle for any in the second half as APR’s striker Nshuti Innocent also missed several clear cut chances which would have increased the goal tally for the military side.
The win took APR Fc to top of the log with seven points in three matches played so far while AS Kigali are ranked fourth joint on four points Etincelles, Rayon Sports and Marines Fc who are set to play their match day three fixtures on Saturday.
Meanwhile, action continues on Saturday with Bugesera Fc ranked 14th hosting fifth-placed defending champion Rayon Sports in Nyamata while third-placed Etincelles Fc hosts Mukura VS who are ranked 11th with three points at Umuganda Stadium.
In Rusizi, Espoir Fc hosts visitors Sunrise Fc at Kamparamaka grounds while Musanze Fc will be away to Kirehe Fc in Kirehe District.
On Sunday, Amagaju Fc will be hoping to extend their clean sheet when they play away to seventh ranked Police Fc with three points at Kicukiro stadium in Kigali city.
Sixth-placed Marines Fc unbeaten with four points face Gicumbi Fc who are ranked 11th with three points while Miroplast Fc who are 15th with no point will host visitors SC Kiyovu who are placed eighth with three points at Mironko grounds.
Gicumbi Fc will miss Tuyisenge Yassin in their weekend’s encounter as he is the only suspended player during this weekend’s round.
