A Police operation against dealers in narcotic drugs in Kayonza District led to the arrest of two women, who were found selling the psychotropic substances.
“While searching Musabyimana’s house, officers also recovered about 30 kilogrammes of cannabis,” Inspector of Police (IP) Bosco Dusabe, Police spokesperson for the Eastern Province said.
Both Musabyimana and Mukabugingo are currently detained at Ndego and Kabarondo police stations, respectively, pending further investigations and processing of their dossiers to prosecution, he added.
Article 594 of the Rwandan penal code, stipulates that, any person who, unlawfully, makes, transforms, imports, or sells narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances within the country, shall be liable to a term of imprisonment of three to five years and a fine of Rwf500,000 to Rwf5 million.
He lauded the role of the community in fighting illicit drugs and crimes in general, but called for more vigilance and partnership in community policing activities.
“These arrests, as usual, were facilitated by information we received from members of the public, who are willing to weed out lawlessness in their communities. This is a gesture that we continue to count on to further promote safety, security and peace in communities,” IP Dusabe said.
