A high profile delegation of Police Capability Study Team from United Nation Headquarters together with top officials of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) visited Rwanda Police peacekeepers in South Sudan on April 17 to assess the performance and professionalism of contingents in restoring peace in the country.
The UN delegation was made of Hakan Svedberg, Qader Alhabahbeh and Katherine. They were accompanied by the UNPOL Planning Officer Elisabeth Silenje, the Coordinator Protection of Civilians (PoC) in Malakal region, Ayhan Altok and Formed Police Units (FPU) Coordinator in Malakal region, Mikhail Bychikhin.
They visited Rwandan Police peacekeepers Base Camp, UNMISS Base Camp and Malakal PoC site and throughout the tour, they were guided and accompanied by Contingent Commander (CONTICO), Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Charles Butera.
During the visit, ACP Butera presented to them what the peacekeepers have been engaged into from the beginning of their mission, success stories and the challenges they encounter.
In his remarks, ACP Butera said that; “In partnership with fellow peacekeepers, we exhibit values in conducting our daily duties and keeping up the spirit of hard work. By doing this, we uphold our country’s values and work as a team with other peacekeepers to successfully complete our mission.”
“We always ensure we fulfill our tasks and prioritize restoring sustainable peace, security and development. It is our key responsibility to work exceptionally with local population to restore peace and security” he added.
After the tour around the camps, the delegates hailed Rwanda Police peacekeepers for their exceptional, commitment and hardwork in restoring peace in South Sudan.
