The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) announced Saturday that Rwanda is the host of the 19th Commonwealth Games General assembly in September next year.
The president of Rwanda National Olympic and Sports Committee, Valens Munyabagisha, said Rwanda is to leverage this important event to build its profile and the wider Commonwealth, « and also contribute to our shared sporting, social and economic development. »
« We are truly honoured to be selected to host the 2019 CGF General Assembly, » he declared.
The event will mark the ten-year anniversary of Rwanda joining the Commonwealth in 2009, and comes a year before Rwanda hosts the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in 2020.
