Police say they have tightened security to ensure a peaceful ninth Tour du Rwanda which kicks off tomorrow.
“We will keep you updated every day till the end of the race. Enjoy the race and let’s keep the riders safe and the roads free of any objects however small because they can cause accidents,” Police said in a statement issued today ahead of the tournament.
The race kicks off with a prologue and will involve seven rolling road stages before the finishing on Sunday next week.
During this time, Police said, “some roads will be busy and we urge vehicle drivers to use alternative roads or if not in a hurry, to patiently wait until roads are accessible again.”
The race will see a peloton tackling a challenging 819Km course across the country with massive influx of people expected to flock roads to watch riders as they snake through Rwanda’s hills.
“We appeal for compliance and cooperation from spectators, kindly keep a reasonable distance from the road,” Police says.
Police added that as usual, the Road and Traffic department will provide escort services to the riders throughout the race.
Meanwhile, as cases of accidents of any other form of insecurity are expected, Police has provided toll free number for the public to call in case of any unusual occurrence. The numbers are;0788311216, 0788311554,0788311502 and 0788311110.src KT
