Rwandan media owners and journalists have rejected the outcome from a survey that rates popularity of Television and radio stations.
The Geopoll survey results were published last week showing that TV Rwanda had the most viewed program followed by Flash TV.
Details from this survey also show that Radio Rwanda was the most listened to station followed by Kiss Fm then trailed by Radio One.
These findings have been described as ‘underrated and baseless’. The survey rates how Rwandan audiences listen to the Radio stations and watched Television in the quarter of 2019.
This survey found that the ‘Good morning Rwanda’ program aired in the morning by TV Rwanda is the most-watched with 61,000 viewers, followed again by Good morning Rwanda on Flash TV counting 52,000 viewers and Rirashe Talk show.
For radios, Radio Rwanda still scooped the highest with 139,000 listeners by ‘The Morning Show’ followed by ‘The Breakfast Show’ by Kiss FM with 126,000 and Radio 1 on the 8th position with 33,000 audiences.
The survey has prompted media owners to write to the administration of the Geopoll asking them to delete their name from their website arguing that the survey report is damaging and would jeopardise their businesses.
TVI, owner, KNC, Kakooza Nkuriza Charles, said, the report was not grounded enough to convince them beyond doubt. He revealed that the Geo Poll had requested to work with him but failed, thus, it’s the reason of this damaging report.
It is not the first time the Geopoll survey has collided with Rwanda’s audience. In 2015, RURA commented on the report published in that year wondering why the focus had that time targeted on the National Television.
Jado Castal, the Director of the TV10, a local station in Rwanda, told The Express News, “The report was baseless and lacking in facts to support their findings.”
He also said that the Geopoll had earlier requested to sign an MoU with the TV10 but the deal failed, therefore, that it is the reason behind such underrating.
