Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame has scooped the Ai Presidential Investment Leadership of the Year Award at the ongoing World Economic Forum in Cape Town South Africa.
Ambassador Vincent Karega, Rwanda’s High Commissioner to South Africa received the award on behalf of President Kagame on Tuesday.
“I am delighted to receive on behalf of President Kagame an Ai Presidential Investment Leadership of the year Award in CapeTown/SA. A business Continental Event in the margins of the World Economic Forum for Africa,” Ambassador Karega said.
South Africa’s Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) said it received an official confirmation that Kagame would not attend the World Economic Forum (WEF) on Africa meeting in Cape Town.
“We did receive confirmation from Rwanda that the president has withdrawn but we did not get indication that it is because of the sporadic violence taking place in South Africa at the moment,” DIRCO spokesperson, Lunga Ngqengelele.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, Kagame also won the Destination Africa Lifetime award given to individuals who have made exceptional lifetime contribution in creating positive change by promoting Africa beyond the continent.
Kagame’s exceptional leadership in the promotion of Africa to the world stood out as the award committee announced him as the winner of this year’s award.
This award was given during the Africa Tourism Leadership Awards, which recognises the game-changers in the tourism sector- the ceremony was held in Durban recently.
Rwanda Development Board was also awarded for Leading in progressive Policies.
