With the AU head of states summit set to take place on Sunday 28, the president Paul of the Republic of Rwanda, Kagame has attended NEPAD meeting and African Union Security Council meeting where he stressed the role of NEPAD to be intertwined with the development of African Union.
Kagame who is taking over as the Head of African Union in 30th African Union Summit on Sunday, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia joined other heads of states in New Africa Development for Africa Development(NEPAD) meeting and had his thoughts on the contribution of NEPAD in the development of continental development and said the personal involvement and commitment of heads of states and governments to be the reflection the importance they give to delivering results.
He expressed his gratitude to the efforts of NEPAD in supporting various sectors of continental development.
“First, I would like to thank NEPAD for tremendous work that continues to be done, particularly in supporting agriculture and infrastructure and technologies of our countries,” said Kagame
He also thanked the partnership for continued role in identifying essentials needs in various areas of development for the benefit of the continent.
“NEPAD has also been forward-looking, in terms of early reflection, on how to reposition itself with the African Union, even before the current reform agenda. This should be commended, especially because of the ongoing reform envisions NEPAD as the development arm of the African Union, which is a key priority. What this means is that the role of this organization will be even more significant.” Added.
Kagame concluded his remarks by calling for co-head of states to consider the personal involvement and commitment as it is the portrayal of the significance they give to delivering results.
Kagame has also attended, later on the day, attended the Peace and Security Council meeting, which was chaired by Egyptian Prsident Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and among other participants included Moussa Faki Mahamat, Chairperson of the African Union Commission and United Nations Secretary General António Guterres. Kagame pledged, in the meeting, partnership and close collaboration of Rwanda in fighting the challenges, especially related to terrorism, facing the continent.
