Starting 1 January , 2018, all international citizens are allowed to travel to Rwanda without visa, whereby visa can be issued upon arrival in accordance to the latest visa regime set by Rwanda on various countries around the world.
According to the announcement of Rwanda Directorate General for Immigration and Emigration the new visa regime enters into effect starting January 1, 2017 whereby all citizens from around the world are able to apply for visa upon their arrival without need for prior application. The announcement proved what was story to be reality.
There are citizens of countries which are eligible for a 90 days visa namely Benin, Central African Republic, Chad, DRC, Ghana, Guinea, Indonesia, Haiti, Mauritius, Philippines, Senegal, Seychelles, Sao Tome and Principe and Singapore.
For citizens of EAC states Partners visitor’s visa shall be given for the period of 6 months renewable with no chargeable fee.
Citizens Australia, Germany, Israel, New Zealand, Sweden, United Kingdom, and United States of America will be issued with entry visa valid for a period up to 30 days and pay for a visa ($30) upon arrival without prior application.
Before, the privilege of issuing visa upon arrival was only applicable to citizens of Africa states with the EAC citizens, Mauritius, Seychelles and Singapore enjoying visa waiver.
Visa will now be issued in accordance to applicable requirements for applying visa but applicants are now able to apply for them upon their arrival.
The new visa regime enters into effect following the Cabinet Meeting of November 8, 2017 which approved the New Visa regime for the Republic of Rwanda.
The regime is in line with the government policy of opening its borders to foreign citizens whereby they will feel free to come and play their part in the sector of investment which has been proved to be of an enabling environment. The sector of tourism is also among many other sectors expected boost its revenue due to the influx of diversity of people from around the world who will be travelling to Rwanda.
