Members of Community Policing Committees Police in Musanze and Kirehe districts have reminded to redefine their role in the security and safety of their communities.
The remarks were made on February 28, in Nkotsi and Gahara sectors of Musanze and Kirehe districts, respectively, during separate meetings with about 600 CPCs.
Police utilizes the community policing methodology as a way of involving communities in the prevention of crime, identifying and reporting offenders and suspected security threats.
The community policing strategy brings together law enforcement and community groups to clearly signal the major legal and community consequences of lawlessness.
Residents may also offer social services to help someone get out of a dangerous lifestyle, through such forums.
Speaking in Musanze, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Viateur Ntiyamira, the District Community Liaisons Officer urged them to look out for drug dealers.
“Issues of illicit drugs, corruption, domestic and gender based violence, and child abuse should be given due attention,” CIP Ntiyamira said.
He also urged them to be exemplary, do away with behaviours of alcoholism and guide the residents in making their communities safe.
In Kirehe, the DCLO IP Gahigi Harerimana, while addressing CPCs in Gahara, also echoed the same message with emphasis of sharing information on drug dealers and routes used as means of breaking chains of supply.
