The 2017 edition of the Agaciro Development Fund football championship will attract the country’s big four from last season’s Azam Rwanda Premier League.
The championship whose overall winner will be crowned champion will start on September 9, 2017 and climax on September 16.
In the opening matches of the championship, AS Kigali will face APR Fc while reigning league champions Rayon Sports will take on Police Fc, all matches to be staged at Amahoro Stadium.
On September 13, APR, who finished in third place, will meet Police, Rayon Sports will entertain AS Kigali while on final day September 16, Police FC will face AS Kigali, a match that will be followed by a clash between and arch rivals Rayon Sports and APR.
The Agaciro Development Fund football championship will be staged as part of raising funds towards the Agaciro Development Fund, the country’s Rwanda’s sovereign wealth fund.
The Fund was set up to build up public savings to achieve self-reliance, maintain stability in times of shocks to the national economy and accelerate Rwanda’s socio-economic development goals. The Fund is unique as its capital comes from voluntary contributions by Rwandans at home and abroad as well as friends of Rwanda.
It will also be a good platform for teams to prepare for the 2017/18 season, which starts on September 29.
Police FC won the inaugural Agaciro Development Fund tournament in 2015 after edging Sunrise FC 1-0 at Amahoro Stadium.
