The Ombudsman Anastase Murekezi has recommended prosecution for 10 government officials out of 12, 000 have not declared their wealth as par the stipulations of the civil service act.
For the period 2018-2019, a total of 12,237 people who fall under the civil service were expected to submit forms detailing how much they own in property, cash and liabilities.
Sources from the Ombudsman say, legal proceedings have already begun against some of the ten people who did not file their wealth declaration forms.
In the previous year, four officials did not abide by the wealth declaration law, which means the number of officials refusing has risen.
Ombudsman Office has declined to reveal the identities of the officials.
If convicted, any officials who fails to declare their wealth goes to jail for seven years. The undeclared wealth is also confiscated and put into state coffers
