NCPD – National Council of Persons with Disabilities in collaboration with Hope and Homes for Children (HHC) Rwanda trained the District personnel in charge of persons with disabilities commonly known as District Mainstreaming Officers (DMOs).
This training aims at reinforcing the collaboration and synergy of different stakeholders supporting children with disabilities and vulnerable families in 13 districts as well as children with disabilities abandoned and placed with special foster families (Malaika Murinzi) not forgetting those in residential placements (centres and homes)
Those are districts of operation for Hope and Homes for Children namely Gasabo, Nyarugenge, Kicukiro, Bugesera, Kayonza, Gatsibo, Kamonyi, Nyanza, Nyamagabe, Gicumbi, Rubavu, Karongi and Rusizi.
The training was concluded with a memorandum of understanding between HHC and NCPD “Our objective is to reinforce the collaboration to ensure all vulnerable children with disabilities and their families receive appropriate support and enhance safe and sustainable reintegration/placements in families for those in residential care” said Mr Innocent Habimfura, the Country Director of HHC Rwanda and Regional Operations Director, East and Southern Africa.
Speaking to DMOs, Mr Emmanuel Ndayisaba, the Executive Secretary of the National Council of Persons with Disabilities (NCPD) said: “We need your collaboration and contribution to ensure the support of children with disabilities and vulnerable families in your districts”
Mr Sylvère Uzaribara, One of the participants told The Express News that the training left them with a common understanding of the role of District Mainstreaming Officers in planning and interventions in favor of children with disabilities. ‘” We will identify and address issues/challenges of children in general and children with disabilities in particular” he concluded
NCPD has a national mandate of advocacy and social mobilization on issues affecting persons with disabilities in order to build their capacity and ensure their participation in the national development. Hope and Homes for Children is an international non-governmental organization that is working to enable every child to grow up in a loving family.
