ABOUT 46 people, including military, police and civilian personnel, on Sunday, started a week-long course on African Integrated Crisis Management at the Rwanda Peace Academy in Musanze District.
The course seeks to enhance the knowledge and understanding of integrated crisis management approaches, as well as to enhance collaboration and coordination among different actors, namely; the military, civilian crisis management, humanitarian and development actors according to officials.
Addressing the participants, Col Jill Rutaremara, the academy director, expressed that the course was very crucial as military, police and civilians carry out a wide range of functions in peacekeeping mission which need to be synchronized.
He stressed that while different actors may have specific and specialised roles in the crisis cycle at a given peace keeping area, “it is important that they train together, exercise together and carry out joint planning and analysis for the mission to be successful,”
The course drew 46 participants, including military, police personnel, as well as civilians from eight countries under the Eastern African Standby Force(EASF), namely; Comoros, The Federal Republic of Ethiopia, Kenya, Seychelles, Somalia, Sudan, Uganda and hosts Rwanda.
The Joint chief of staff at the Eastern Africa Standby Force Secretariat, Maj Gen Charles Rudakubana who officially opened the African Integrated Crisis Management course, urged participants to use the course to share experience as well as to build friendship which will lead them to work professionally when they will be deployed at peacekeeping mission.
He particular told participants that the course they are undertaking will help them to overcome obstacles that occur in multidimensional environment where different actors have stakes and interests.
African Integrated Crisis Management course was organised by Rwanda Peace Academy in partnership with the Nordic Defense Cooperation (NORDEFCO) and the Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) and will run up to October 19th .
