Ellen DeGeneres On Her Life-Changing Trip To Rwanda: « It’s Hard To Describe How Amazing My Experience Was
Ellen DeGeneres opened the new season of her daytime talk show by discussing the recent vacation she took, fulfilling « a lifetime dream » by visiting the African nation of Rwanda in order to see some mountain gorillas in their natural habitat.
The trip, she explained, was part of the work she’s doing with her new Ellen DeGeneres Wildlife Fund, which will continue the work of gorilla expert Dian Fossey, described by DeGeneres as « one of my idols. »
She also shared her experiences staying at Kenya’s Giraffe Manor, where she and wife Portia de Rossi got up close and personal with some giraffes (although she did admit the place « smelled a little giraffey »).
Visiting Rwanda, she gushed, « It’s hard to describe how amazing my experience was… the country is amazing, the people are amazing. »
She also shared some video from her trip, in which she came face to face with some baby gorillas.
Meanwhile, DeGeneres also had some big news to share: her return to standup comedy, announcing that her first Netflix standup special will debut on Dec. 18 while revealing a big surprise to her audience.
