On the invitation of the Commander General of Carabinieri – the Italian Police, Gen Giovanni Nistri, the Inspector General (IGP) of Rwanda National Police (IGP) Emmanuel K. Gasana is in Rome for a follow up on the existing cooperation between the two police forces.
The partnership is hinged on the existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which has seen refreshing cooperation mainly focusing on capacity building.
During the visit, the two Police Chiefs evaluated the progress of the revised partnership that is pinned on the MoU, which was signed and entered into force early last year, and have recommitted to moving it to a much higher level.
The commitment entailed benchmarking training institutions, exchange programmes as well as establishing a joint permanent technical team that would work together in reviewing areas of cooperation for mutual benefits.
Gen Nistri came into office as Commander General of Carabineri in January this year following his December 2017 appointment.
During the bilateral meeting, he promised to visit Rwanda in the near future to further strengthen the policing cooperation.
The MoU signed last year confirms the parties’ desire to strengthen their cooperation in the fields of training and exchange of best practices related to the two institutional services.
