Through Rwandan Police confirmation, information revealed early this week that 2 Ecobank employees in Nyagatare stole money of the Bank and vanished.
The stolen client’s deposit was allegedly stolen by bank employees- the acting branch manager and his Operations Manager.
The stolen money was in a bank safe containing Rwf77, 849,574, $17,725, €3,575 and GBP200- which is equivalent to Rwf96, 424,324 by the current exchange rate.
Inspector of Police (IP) Jean de Dieu Kayihura, the Police spokesman in the Eastern Province said that the information on the robbery was leaked by Ecobank Head Office officials.
“We are investigating the case, but the two officials remain prime suspects in the alleged robbery” Kayihura said.
Sources from bank staff indicate that the money was allegedly swindled on Saturday between 1pm and 2pm, after security cameras were switched off in the branch premises. “Rwanda eye”
Both the acting manager and operations manager lived in the same compound at the bank premises.
Currently police in collaboration with Ecobank is conducting investigation to catch Branch manager and operations Manager.
